Is Bradley Cooper the sexiest man alive or do you think it really is Johnny Depp but since he's been given the title twice, People's editors thought it was time to move on? I'm not sure how I feel about these lists. No, I take that back, I do know how I feel about them. I don't like them. What truly makes a man (or woman) sexy isn't only in their appearance, or how they appear on screen (really, are the only sexy people in the world actors and actresses?); but rather how a person acts in every aspect of their life. No offense to Mr. Cooper; he may be a delightful man; but the truth is, we don't know anyone on these lists and how they behave in private may be a complete "Jekyll and Hyde" from their Hollywood personas.

Point- Mel Gibson was the first man to garner the award.

Occupy Wall Street protesters bloodied, beaten in New York (video)

On November 17, 2011, the protests that began in New York dubbed “Occupy Wall Street” celebrated two-months of demonstration in what may have been one of the bloodiest days in the organized movement’s brief history. A video posted by Citizen Tube showed one protester with blood dripping down his forehead as a swarm of police officers continued to push him back. Shouts were heard in the background of “Police Brutality.” How the protester became bloodied has not been verified and at this point, we must say “alleged” police brutality may be the cause of this man’s injuries.

While watching the video, you can hear the police as they order the protesters to move. You may see what appears to be riot police down on the ground apparently confronting protesters that have fell or possibly been thrown. There is no immediate attempt to help the wounded man who appears dazed and stunned. The incident occurred in the middle of Zuccotti Park. You may view the video below.

Knee injuries in children on the rise: Ready, Set Prevent program

Knee injuries in children are on the rise, says a new study presented to the American Academy of Pediatrics. The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia reported the findings after reviewing case history for patients from January 1999 until January 2011. The study aims to shed light on those who may be at increased risk of developing tears in the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) which is located in the knee. Athletic children are at greater risk of damaging the ligament and injuring the knee due to improper techniques during athletic performance.

J.Todd Lawrence, M.D. PH.D and orthapaedic surgeon at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia released a statement regarding his findings with the study. “Many people in sports medicine have assumed that these knee injuries have increased in recent years among children. Our study confirmed our hypothesis that, at least at our large academic pediatric hospital, knee injuries are an ever-growing problem for children and adolescents involved in sports."

The study showed an increase in Tibia sinal fractures of 1% a year compared to an 11% increase in ACL tears. Meniscus tears (the area that provides support and cushion to the knee) increased by an approximate 14%. The increases show a great need for education and safe practices in children’s sports. Continuing, Dr. Lawrence stated, “Since tibial spine fractures were once thought to be the pediatric equivalent of an ACL tear, this continued rise in ACL tears in children suggests that injury patterns are changing and that the true incidence of these injuries is increasing."

One of the study’s co-authors, Dr. Ted Ganley, stated he hopes the study will cause parents, coaches and children and teen athletes to recognize the importance and need for safe training practices. Dr. Ganley serves as the director for the Sports Medicine and Performance Center at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia where they have developed a number of videos to help increase awareness and athletic training safety for kids. On March 11, 2011, Japan was blasted by a devastating 8.9 magnitude earthquake and subsequent 30 foot tsunami that swept away houses, boats, trains and automobiles. As the death toll continues to rise those in unaffected areas are planning response and disaster relief. Earlier today, AmeriCares, a nonprofit organization that provides humanitarian relief, medicine and medical supplies announced they were sending an expert to assess the damage and need. AmeriCares announced they expect the medical needs will be great and will be ongoing.

Christoph Gorder, Senior Vice President of AmeriCares Global Programs stated, “Japan is a wealthy, industrialized nation that prepares for emergencies like these, but as we learned from Hurricane Katrina, a disaster of this magnitude can stretch the resources of even the most prepared countries. After a tsunami there's always an enormous need for antibiotics and wound care supplies to treat survivors with infected wounds and respiratory infections from inhaling contaminated sea water."

Shape and Adventure Fit join for first Diva Dash Obstacle Race

On March 3, 2010, SHAPE announced a new venture with Adventure Fit that will result in the launch of the first Diva Dash Obstacle adventure race. The event will be held in Austin, Texas on April 9, 2011 at the Walter E. Long Metropolitan Park. The entire obstacle course spans three miles long and there will be numerous, healthy activities for participants to engage in.

According to an announcement by SHAPE, women of all fitness levels may participate as participants may choose to run or walk in the event. SHAPE has also provided access for participants to train for the event as well. Training will be held at the Run Tex Riverside. Cults come in all shapes, sizes and forms. They also span the gamut of religious organizations from Christian to New Age and then some. In fact, the words “Christian cults” may seem a misnomer since a cult is actually so far from an original denomination it is no longer associated with the parent group. Still, in today’s society, many people recognize and refer to a number of cults as Christian. Jim Jones of Jonestown, David Koresh of the Branch Davidians, even Warren Jeffs of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FDLS) are referred to by some as being “Christian.” A clear example of this could be seen in the Westboro Baptist Church. The group has all the qualities of being a cult, while many feel they are a Christian church. Note, this word is used loosely, is not in its true sense of the word and is used in error- however, it is common for many in society to refer to these leaders and churches as Christian.

New Affordable Care Act rules shed light on high health insurance rate hikes

New proposed Affordable Care Act regulations announced today by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will bring new transparency and scrutiny to proposed health insurance rate increases. These proposed rules allow HHS to work with states to require insurers to publicly disclose and justify unreasonable rate increases.

“Year after year, insurance company profits soar, while Americans pay more for less health care coverage,” said Secretary Sebelius. “The Affordable Care Act is bringing unprecedented transparency and oversight to insurance premiums to help reign in the kind of excessive and unreasonable rate increases that have made insurance unaffordable for so many families.”

Health insurance premiums have risen rapidly over the past decade, straining pocketbooks for American families and businesses. Since 1999, average premiums for family coverage have risen 131 percent.
The Affordable Care Act has already begun to help states strengthen or create rate review processes. On August 16, HHS awarded $46 million to 45 states and the District of Columbia to help them improve their oversight of proposed health insurance rate increases. This is part of $250 million that the health reform law makes available to states to take action against insurers seeking unreasonable rate hikes.

Today’s proposed regulations will build on these efforts by requiring insurers in all states to publicly justify any unreasonable rate increases beginning in 2011. In 2011, proposed rate increases of 10 percent or higher will be publicly disclosed and thoroughly reviewed to determine if the rate increase is unreasonable. After 2011, state-specific thresholds would be set using data and trends that better reflect cost trends particular to each state. Insurance company’s justifications for unreasonable increases will be posted on HealthCare.gov and the insurance plan’s website.

“The proposed rate review policy will empower consumers, promote competition, encourage insurers to do more to control health care costs and discourage insurers from charging premiums which are unjustified,” said Jay Angoff, director of HHS’ Office of Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight.

Under the proposed regulation, states with effective rate review systems would conduct the reviews. If a state lacks the resources or authority to do thorough actuarial reviews, HHS would conduct them. Meanwhile, HHS will continue to make resources available to states to strengthen their rate review processes.

In 2014, the Affordable Care Act empowers states to exclude health plans that show a pattern of excessive or unjustified premium increases from the new health insurance exchanges.

HHS and Walgreens Announce New Effort Aimed at Addressing Health Disparities in Flu Vaccination

New effort will provide $10 million worth – approximately 350,000 free flu vaccines to underinsured and underserved

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius today announced that Walgreens has agreed to donate $10 million in vouchers for free flu shots to 350,000 eligible uninsured and underserved people in 15 markets across the country.

Secretary Sebelius made the announcement earlier today in a conference call with Assistant Secretary for Health Dr. Howard Koh, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Dr. Dan Jernigan, and Walgreens President of Pharmacy Services, Kermit Crawford. The announcement is part of a larger demonstration project being undertaken by HHS and its partners to address continuing health disparities in flu vaccination rates.

“Thanks to the new health care law, many people can get their flu vaccination without paying a co-pay or deductible, but there are still more Americans who cannot afford to get vaccinated for the flu,” said Secretary Sebelius. “With this generous donation, Walgreens is helping individuals and families who otherwise might be unprotected from the flu this season. We are also troubled by recent data showing disparities among people when it comes to flu vaccination. This donation will help us remove barriers that have prevented some from getting vaccinated.”

Vouchers are good for one flu shot at any Walgreens pharmacy, Duane Reade pharmacy in New York or Take Care Clinic, and will be available beginning early next week in the following metropolitan areas:

* Chicago, IL
* Houston, TX

* Kansas City, MO
* Newark, NJ
* Oakland, CA

Vouchers will also soon be distributed and available through local health agencies in:

Protecting All from Flu – HHS Demonstration Project to Expand Efforts to Reduce Health Disparities in Flu Vaccination targets 15 communities in a coordinated effort to improve influenza vaccination rates among underserved populations. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - December 6, 2010 - S&S Food Inc. at 1560 Troy Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11203 is recalling DRIED FISH VOBLA GUTTED discovered by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors during a routine inspection and subsequent analysis of product by Food Laboratory personnel confirming that the fish was not properly eviscerated prior to processing.

This product may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum spores, which can cause Botulism, a serious and potentially fatal food borne illness. Symptoms of botulism include blurred vision, general weakness and poor reflexes, difficulty in swallowing and respiratory paralysis.

The sale of un-eviscerated fish is prohibited under New York State Agriculture and Markets regulations because Clostridium botulinum spores are more likely to be concentrated in the viscera than any other portion of the fish. Un-eviscerated fish has been linked to outbreaks of botulism poisoning.

The recalled dried fish Vobla gutted comes in a coded, plastic vacuum packed bag with the following code: Production date: 21.06.2010, lot # 280610140 and is a product of Germany. This product was sold nationwide.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem. Consumers who have DRIED FISH VOBLA GUTTED are advised not to eat it and should return it to the place of purchase. Consumer with questions may contact the company at (718) 677-6888.

For Immediate Release - December 7, 2010 - Pablo’s Produce, Inc. of Oxnard, Ca is voluntarily recalling one lot of cilantro because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The company is working with Health officials to inform consumers of this recall, and no illnesses have been reported to date.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with salmonella can results in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The recalled Cilantro was bundled with white twist ties with black lettering spelling the word “Cilantro” and UPC # 03383801049. The twist tie also has the words “Pablo’s Produce of USA” in red and green writing. The cilantro was available for sale from November 24, 2010 through December 2, 2010.

The recall involves only one lot of cilantro and does not involve any other cilantro sold before or after the dates listed above or any other products distributed by Pablo’s Produce. This contamination was detected in a routine surveillance sample at a produce distributor in California. Consumers who are uncertain if they have any of the recalled cilantro, are urged to discard or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

FDA issues guidance on public comment procedures at advisory committee meetings

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today issued final guidance for people who wish to comment during the agency’s advisory committee meetings. The guidance provides instructions on how to request a time to speak and how FDA staff should respond to requests to speak at the meetings.

The FDA encourages participation from all stakeholders in its decision-making process. Every advisory committee meeting includes an open public hearing session, during which interested people may present relevant information or their oral and/or written views.

The guidance finalizes information contained in the 2005 draft guidance titled The Open Public Hearing – FDA Advisory Committee Meetings – Draft Guidance.

Highlights of the guidance include:

• Before an advisory committee meeting, people may ask, either orally or in writing, to speak at the meeting; they should include contact information, topic to discuss, time requested; FDA usually allots 5-10 minutes per person.

• FDA staff responds to requests and, if the topic is unrelated to the committee’s work, may decline the request.

• At the meeting, speakers should identify themselves to FDA staff and provide any handouts or other materials, which staff then provides to committee members. These materials then become part of the meeting’s permanent record.

• Committee members are encouraged to ask questions of the speakers, to discover more information that might be useful to the committee’s deliberations. Committee members and the public should be reminded of the importance of the open public hearing session and that all speakers should be treated with courtesy and respect.

• Public speakers are encouraged to disclose any financial relationships they may have with the topic of the meeting or with sponsors of competitors of the products under discussion.

• FDA will provide a designated seating area for speakers.

Since meetings typically take several months to plan, we are implementing the new guidance starting with meetings held in March 2011.

Advisory committees enhance the FDA’s ability to protect and promote public health by ensuring FDA has access to comments from the public through the public hearing process provided in existing laws and regulations.

Each advisory committee meeting includes a comment period during which members of the public; individuals or spokespersons from the regulated industry (except the sponsor whose product is under review); consumer advocacy groups; and professional organizations, societies, or organizations are invited to speak.

Darvon and Darvocet latest news: FDA pulls drug from market

The FDA announced that the pharmaceutical company Xanodyne has aggreed to pull the drugs Darvon and Darvocet from the market. Darvon and Darvocet are brand names for the drug propoxyphene. The FDA requested the drug be pulled after new data showed an increase in fatal heart ryhtm abnormalities in users.

Xanodyne agrees to withdraw propoxyphene from the U.S. market

Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals Inc. which makes Darvon and Darvocet, the brand version of the prescription pain medication propoxyphene, has agreed to withdraw the medication from the U.S. market at the request of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The FDA has also informed the generic manufacturers of propoxyphene-containing products of Xanodyne’s decision and requested that they voluntarily remove their products as well.

The FDA sought market withdrawal of propoxyphene after receiving new clinical data showing that the drug puts patients at risk of potentially serious or even fatal heart rhythm abnormalities. As a result of these data, combined with other information, including new epidemiological data, the agency concluded that the risks of the medication outweigh the benefits.

“The FDA is pleased by Xanodyne’s decision to voluntarily remove its products from the U.S. market,” said John Jenkins, M.D., director of the Office of New Drugs in the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER). “These new heart data significantly alter propoxyphene’s risk-benefit profile. The drug’s effectiveness in reducing pain is no longer enough to outweigh the drug’s serious potential heart risks.”
The FDA is advising health care professionals to stop prescribing propoxyphene to their patients, and patients who are currently taking the drug should contact their health care professional as soon as possible to discuss switching to another pain management therapy.

Propoxyphene is an opioid used to treat mild to moderate pain. First approved by the FDA in 1957, propoxophene is sold by prescription under various names both alone (e.g., Darvon) or in combination with acetaminophen (e.g., Darvocet).

Since 1978, the FDA has received two requests to remove propoxyphene from the market. Until now, the FDA had concluded that the benefits of propoxyphene for pain relief at recommended doses outweighed the safety risks of the drug.

In January 2009, the FDA held an advisory committee meeting to address the efficacy and safety of propoxyphene. After considering the data submitted with the original drug applications for propoxyphene, as well as subsequent medical literature and postmarketing safety databases, the committee voted 14 to 12 against the continued marketing of propoxyphene products. In making this recommendation, the committee noted that additional information about the drug’s cardiac effects would be relevant in weighing its risks and benefits.
In June 2009, the European Medicines Agency (EMEA) recommended that the marketing authorizations for propoxyphene be withdrawn across the European Union. A phased withdrawal of propoxyphene is underway.

In July 2009, the FDA decided to permit continued marketing, but required that a new boxed warning be added to the drug label alerting patients and health care professionals to the risk of a fatal overdose. In addition, the agency required Xanodyne to conduct a new safety study assessing unanswered questions about the effects of propoxyphene on the heart.

The agency now has reviewed the data from that study, which show that, even when taken at recommended doses, propoxyphene causes significant changes to the electrical activity of the heart. These changes, which can be seen on an electrocardiogram (ECG), can increase the risk for serious abnormal heart rhythms that have been linked to serious adverse effects, including sudden death. The available data also indicate that the risk of adverse events for any particular patient (even patients who have taken the drug for many years) is subject to change based on small changes in the health status of the patient, such as dehydration, a change in medications, or decreased kidney function.

“With the new study results, for the first time we now have data showing that the standard therapeutic dose of propoxyphene can be harmful to the heart,” said Gerald Dal Pan, M.D., M.H.S., director of the Office of Surveillance and Epidemiology, CDER. “However, long-time users of the drug need to know that these changes to the heart’s electrical activity are not cumulative. Once patients stop taking propoxyphene, the risk will go away.”

Vigor-25 latest news: FDA warns consumers stop using Vigor-25

The FDA warned consumers to stop using the male sexual stimulant Vigor-25 after it was determined the product contains an undisclosed hidden ingredient. Though Vigor-25 is marketed as a herbal formula to help enhance male sexual performance, Vigor-25 contains the drug sildenafil. Sildenafil is also found in Viagra.

According to the FDA, “Sildenafil may interact with prescription drugs known as nitrates, including nitroglycerin, and can dangerously lower blood pressure. The FDA is investigating the reported death of a 26-year old man, possibly associated with the use of Vigor-25.

Vigor-25, distributed by Piston Corp., is sold on Internet sites and possibly in some retail outlets.

“This product is dangerous to consumers because it claims to contain only natural ingredients when it actually contains a prescription drug ingredient,” said Deborah M. Autor, director of the Office of Compliance in the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. “Tainted products place consumers at risk of injury and death, especially those consumers with underlying health conditions.”

The FDA has found many products marketed as dietary supplements for sexual enhancement during the past several years that can be harmful because they contain active ingredients in FDA-approved drugs or variations of these ingredients. Sexual enhancement products promising rapid effects (e.g., claim to work in minutes to hours) or long-lasting effects (e.g., claim to last 24-72 hours) are likely to contain a contaminant.

The FDA advises consumers who have experienced any negative side effects from sexual enhancement products to stop using such products and consult a health care professional and to safely discard the product. The FDA urges health care professionals and consumers to report adverse events or side effects from use of Vigor-25 to the FDA’s MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program either online, by regular mail or by fax:

Approximately 650 members of the Opera Company of Philadelphia were intermingling amongst holiday shoppers. You could hear the organ play then lo and behold, the choir broke into song. Suddenly, at 12:00 noon, what appeared to be holiday shoppers opened their mouths and began singing Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus.

What was so amazing, more than the heavenly voices that turned Macy's into a holy cathedral, was the response. People literally stopped shopping, stood motionless, and were emotionally moved and touched by the presentation.

When the performance was over people clapped thunderous applause of praise.

Study shows link between childhood leukemia and x-rays

A study conducted by Dr. Anne Meadows of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and published in the International Journal of Epidemiology shows a link between childhood leukemia and x-rays. According to the study, children who receive three or more x-rays are at a higher risk that they may develop a form of leukemia. Though the researchers detected the link, they did not feel it was necessary to seek an end to childhood x-rays. They do advise, however, that childhood x-rays be given only when absolutely necessary. The study was co-authored by Dr. Patricia Buffler who is a professor of epidemiology at the University of California at Berkeley.

Dr. Patricia Buffler said, “Eliminating or reducing any unnecessary exposure [to radiation] is important.” She also said that the study’s findings posed a ‘very serious alert.’

It is believed that x-rays cause cells to mutate, thereby leading to cancer.

Latest recall news: California recalls chicken pasta salad for Salmonella symptoms

A California company, APPA Fine Foods, voluntarily recalled 7, 325 pounds of chicken pasta salad food products for possible Salmonella contamination. Currently, the 12 oz. packages of "Spicy THAI STYLE PASTA SALAD is under the recall. According to an announcement by the FDA, “The chicken pasta products were produced on Oct. 25, 27, and 29, 2010. The packages bear the establishment number "P-21030" within the USDA Mark of Inspection as well as a "USE BY" date of Oct. 31 or Nov. 1-6, 2010.

FSIS learned of the problem from the company as a result of an ongoing investigation into a cilantro recall issued by an FDA-inspected establishment. FSIS has received no reports of illnesses associated with the consumption of these ready-to-eat chicken pasta salad products.

The ready-to-eat chicken pasta salad products were distributed to distribution centers that sell to a single retail chain in California. When available, the retail distribution list(s) will be posted on FSIS' website at http://www.fsis.usda.gov/http://www.fsis.usda.gov/

Consumption of food contaminated with Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses. New study links red meat to cancer

A new study published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology show a link between red meat consumption and cancers of the stomach and esophagus.

Researchers with the U.S. National Cancer Institute were lead by Dr. Amanda Cross in the study that followed the eating habits of approximately 500,000 American citizens for approximately 10 years. The test subjects were older Americans and though the total number of cancers detected was small, there were a large percentage of cancers detected in those who ate red meat.

Those predisposed to Psoriasis may want to stay away from beer according to a new study by researchers at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and Boston University. Psoriasis is a skin condition, the result of an autoimmune condition that causes red patches on the skin with characteristic silvery scales, dry cracked skin that is painful, itchy or bleeds, fingernails with thickening, pits or ridges, and painfully stiff and swollen joints. According to the study, beer has been linked to an increase in developing Psoriasis.

The study followed 82,869 women for approximately 15 years and included women who had not been diagnosed with Psoriasis. Researchers tracked the amount of alcohol the women consumed and concluded that women who drank as little as 2.3 drinks per week had an increase risk of 80% for developing Psoriasis. The study showed that those who drank five beers per week and more were at an even greater risk of developing Psoriasis.

Dr. Abrar A. Qureshi, an assistant professor of dermatology at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, wrote in the December issue of Archives of Dermatology, "We can say that if a woman would like to consume alcohol and if she has a family history of psoriasis or known psoriasis in the past or some other reason she might be predisposed to psoriasis, the alcohol of choice probably should not be nonlight beer.”

The study showed that the risks were not connected to light beer or wine.

In the book The Treatment of Drinking Problems: A Guide for the Helping Professions by Marshall, Samantha, E. Jane Marshall, Christopher Cook, Keith Humphreys, David M. Ball, Griffith Edwards the link between alcohol and Psoriasis was documented. The book, written in 2005, also says there is a possible link between alcohol and Rosacea as well as acne.

“Heavy drinkers and individuals misusing alcohol are prone to a variety of skin disorders including psoriasis, discoid eczema and superficial cutaneous fungal infections such as tinea pedis and pityriasis versicolor. Rosacea and acne may be exacerbated by alcohol.”

“Psoriasis is an alcohol-related skin condition that deserves special note,” the authors continue to state. “The daily alcohol consumption of men with psoriasis is higher than in men with other skin diseases and heavy drinking appears to be related to the severity of the disease. In heavy drinkers, psoriasis mainly affects the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet. Alcohol-induced psoriasis responds poorly to treatment unless the patient stops drinking.”

More research is needed to determine why the risk is associated with beer and not other forms of alcohol.

The Blue Buffalo Company, LTD, has recalled a number of different ‘Blue’ dry dog food products for having too much Vitamin D. The recalled products include the Wilderness Chicken, Basics Salmon and Large Breed Adult Chicken dog food; all products were sold under the ‘Blue’ label.

Dogs who have ingested excessive amounts of Vitamin D may exhibit signs of lethargy, or drink excessive amounts of water and urinate frequently. If you suspect your dog is having an adverse reaction acter being fed the recalled products you are advised to bring your pet to a veterinarian.

From the press release, “No other BLUE dry or can pet foods are involved in this recall, and only the specific code dates of these products are involved.

To date there have been 36 cases nationwide of dogs reported with symptoms consistent with elevated Vitamin D in their systems while feeding on these specific productions of the products. In all cases the symptoms have subsided upon discontinuing feeding these products, with no apparent long term health consequences.

Blue Buffalo learned of this potential eondition in its products when it received reports of dogs diagnosed with high Vitamin D levels while feeding on the products from these specifie production runs. On further investigation it was learned that a sequencing error had occurred at the supplier of the dry ingredients for these products.

Immediately before producing the ingredients for these specific production runs, the supplier had run a product for another customer that contained a more potent form of Vitamin D used in chicken feeds. It is now believed that there was some level of carry over of this Vitamin D product into the ingredients for the specific manufacturing runs of the BLUE products, thereby increasing the Vitamin D activity to unacceptable levels in the Blue ingredients.

Consumers who have purchased any of the products being recalled are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Though rumors are saying that Justin Bieber assaulted a 12-year-old boy, the latest news says that Justin Bieber was harassed at Planet Lazer Entertainment arcade. A police investigation is underway and though the names of the parties have not been revealed, reports say that Justin Bieber was involved in the altercation.
New reports by Us Weekly suggest that Justin Bieber was harassed, some reports go so far to say that he was bullied, by the 12-year-old who was with a group of friends.

Us weekly quotes an unidentified witness who says, “The 12-year-old and his friends were targeting Bieber and shooting him over and over.”

The witness continued to tell Us magazine, “At one point, they bumped into each other by mistake and Justin ended up shoving him to try and get away. There was an exchange of words and pushing.” The RCMP are investigating the incident which happened in Canada, Justin Bieber’s country of residence.

The witness continued to tell Us magazine, “The 12-year-old's dad is a lawyer, so he immediately called the [Royal Mounted Canadian Police] and wanted to press charges."

The investigation continues.

The latest news on the Justin Bieber front is that the singing sensation was either assaulted at a laser arcade or assaulted a boy. Police aren’t sure what happened and we aren’t either, that’s why an investigation is underway. At this point, it could go either way. The RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) could determine Justin Bieber assaulted a 12-year-old boy at the Planet Lazer Entertainment arcade, or even determine the unidentified 12-year-old hurled insults at Justin then extended his hand in order to attack or assault him, giving Justin Bieber the right to push it away in self defense.

The RCMP may also determine nothing happened and the 12-year-old boy is making false allegations against Justin Bieber due to his status as a pop star, therefore charges could be filed against the 12-year-old.
According to reports by the Vancouver sun, the incident happened in Richmond on Friday, October 15, 2010 just before 5:30 p.m.

A press release by RCMP Corporal Annie Linteau said, “The father of a 12-year-old boy reported to police that his son was assaulted by another boy at a Richmond entertainment facility. The boy sustained minimal injuries and did not require medical attention at the time of the incident.”

The police would not release Justin Bieber or the victim’s identities as they are both minors. The press release continued,” We are aware of speculations concerning the identity of one of the parties allegedly involved. However, we would like to remind the public that we do not release the names of any suspect until charges have been laid. In cases where the accused is under the age of 18, the identity of the accused is not released as per the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.”

Living Foods Inc. announced a voluntary recall of alfalfa sprouts after it was determined the sprouts may pose a Salmonella risk. From the FDA press release, “Out of an abundance of caution, Living Foods, Inc. of Ionia, Michigan is recalling bulk and retail-size packages of Alfalfa Sprouts, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The alfalfa sprouts were distributed to retail and food service facilities through wholesale produce suppliers in Michigan.

The products subject to this market withdrawal include:

•    Four (4) 1-pound bags of alfalfa sprouts, packaged in unlabeled 1-pound plastic bags in a box labeled as Living Foods, Inc. ALFALFA SPROUTS, with a SELL BY DATE of 10/2/2010.

•    Five (5) Pound Bulk Container (bag in a box) of alfalfa sprouts labeled as, Living Foods, Inc. ALFALFA SPROUTS, with a SELL BY DATE of 10/2/2010.

•    4-ounce cup alfalfa sprouts labeled as Living Foods, Inc. ALFALFA SPROUTS, with a SELL BY DATE of 10/2/2010. UPC Code: 0 26684 10006 5.

•    4-ounce bag alfalfa sprouts labeled as Living Foods, Inc. ALFALFA SPROUTS, with a SELL BY DATE of 10/2/2010. UPC Code 0 26684 10004 1.

No illnesses have been reported to date.

A single package of Living Foods, Inc. ALFALFA SPROUTS tested positive for Salmonella spp. The company is working closely with the FDA and the State of Michigan to determine the cause of the problem.
Consumers who have purchased these products should discard them.

Wholesalers and retailers in possession of this product should remove the product from sale and cease distribution.

D&M Smoked Fish Inc announced the recall of certain lots of Haifa Smoked Fish including salmon, semga, butterfish, sprats, capelin, sea bass, whitefish, mackerel, turbot, herring, sable, trout and paddle fish due to potential health risks.

According to a release by the FDA, the fish is being recalled due to the potential of Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious sickness, that may be fatal. Here is information from the FDA, “Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may possibly suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The recalled products were air-packed in bulk boxes and vacuum-packed in clear, plastic bags of various size packages including 4 oz., 8 oz., 16 oz. and random weight sides with the brand name "Haifa Smoked Fish" appearing on a label. Lot numbers appear on the bottom of the gold boards, labels, and/or on bulk boxes. The recalled units bear lot numbers 220; 221; 222; 223; 224; 225; 227; 228; 229; 230; 231; 232; 234; 235; 236; 237; 238; 239; 241; 242; 243 & 244 for the following products:

Gaspari Nutrition Incorporated announced the nationwide voluntary recall of Novedex XT which is a dietary supplement designed for increasing natural testosterone production. Novedex XT contains ATD or 3,17-keto-etiocholetriene which is an anti-aromatas. The FDA contacted Gaspari to inform them that 3,17-keto-etiocholetriene ‘does not meet the definition of a dietary ingredient and therefore the product is in violation of provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.'

From the FDA and Gaspari Novedex XT recall announcement, “Potential adverse events associated with the use of anti-aromatase could include the following: decreased rate of bone maturation and growth, decreased sperm production, infertility, aggressive behavior, adrenal insufficiency, kidney failure, and liver dysfunction. Consumers with liver, kidney, adrenal, or prostate abnormalities are at higher risk for developing adverse events. Gaspari has received no serious adverse events in over five years of marketing Novadex XT.

Novedex XT had been sold internationally and domestically, to distributors, wholesalers, retail stores and direct to consumers, but was discontinued by Gaspari Nutrition for domestic sales on October 4th 2010. The product was sold in blue bottles with a black cap, containing sixty (60) capsules.

Consumers who have Novedex XT in their possession should stop using it immediately. If consumers experience any adverse side effects due to consumption of this product, they should immediately contact a physician. Latest news: La Nuestra Mamey Ice Cream recalled for Salmonella Typhi (Typhoid Fever)

Montalvan’s Sales, Inc., located in Ontario, Canada announced the recall of the La Nuestra brand Mamey Ice Cream due to possible contamination of Salmonella Typhi, linking the ice cream to an outbreak of Typhoid Fever in Nevada and California.

According to a release by the FDA, “As a precautionary measure, Montalvan's Sales, Inc. of Ontario, CA has voluntarily recalled "La Nuestra" brand frozen Mamey Ice Cream due to a potential health risk from Salmonella Typhi. Typhoid fever is a life-threatening illness caused by the bacterium Salmonella Typhi.

Salmonella Typhi lives only in humans. Infection results from eating food or drink beverages that have been handled by a person who is shedding S. Typhi or if sewage contaminated with S. Typhi bacteria gets into the water you use for drinking or washing food. Once S. Typhi bacteria are eaten or drunk, they multiply and spread into the bloodstream. The body reacts with fever, severe abdominal pain, and other signs and symptoms. Most ill persons need to be hospitalized for antibiotic treatment. Persons with typhoid fever carry the bacteria in their bloodstream and intestinal tract. In addition, a small number of persons, called carriers, recover from typhoid fever but continue to carry the bacteria. Both ill persons and carriers shed S. Typhi in their feces (stool).

The recalled "La Nuestra" brand Mamey Ice Cream was distributed in the states of NV, and CA, through retail stores & restaurant establishments.

The La Nuestra brand Mamey Ice Cream comes in a 1 pint paper container & also a 1.5 gallon plastic pail. All lot numbers are affected by this recall. The UPC Codes for the 1 pint size ice cream is 7-56869-17610-2 and the UPC Code for the 1.5 gallon size of ice cream is 7-56869-17599-0.

This recall was initiated after Montalvan's Sales, Inc. was notified by FDA and CDC that the affected product is was made with La Nuestra Mamey Pulp which was implicated via a strong epidemiologic link to a recent outbreak of Typhoid Fever in several Western States.

Consumers who have La Nuestra brand Mamey Ice cream are urged to cease consuming the product and discard. Contact Montalvan's Sales, Inc.'s Consumer Affairs for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company Monday through Friday between the hours of 8AM to 5PM, Pacific Daylight Time at (909) 930-5670.

Latest news: Oregon Western Hazelnut Bread sold at Safeway and WinCo recalled

Lucerne Foods announced a voluntary recall of their Oregon Western Hazelnut Bread sold at Safeway and WinCo stores. Though the bread is ‘Oregon’ the recall affects multiple states and not just Oregon alone.

The recall is in effect due to undeclared nut content. The bread contains cashews, almonds and Brazil nuts and does not include whole wheat bread. The bread recalled has the UPC product code: 3945500371 and has the ‘best before’ dates of September 6, 2010 through October 11, 2010. You can find the best before dates stamped on the plastic closure at the end of the bread bag.

The bread recall is in effect for the following stores.

Latest news: Robbie Hummel tears ACL second time, out of season

Purdue basketball fans are in almost as much pain as Robbie Hummel (well, maybe not as much) after it was announced that the senior forward is out of the 2010-2011 season after tearing his ACL for a second time. The ACL injury comes as a crushing blow to the Purdue player who has been picked as one of the best players in the Big Ten. Fans are disheartened and worried as Robbie Hummel must now undergo the painful and grueling physical therapy and rehab he just recently finished.

According to a report by ESPN’s Dana O’Neil, Robbie Hummel exclusively said after surgery and undergoing rehabilitation in July after tearing his ACL for the first time, “I’m a little nervous because I hurt it doing something so simple. It’s not like I was doing anything crazy, so I’m a little apprehensive. I want to fall down and get back up again.’’

The nation is facing an epidemic of bed bugs and New York’s Lincoln Center and Metropolitan Opera House are the latest to state they have bed bugs. According to reports, bed bugs were discovered in the David H. Koch Theater which is home to the New York City Opera and the New York City Ballet house. The fear of bed bugs spreading is imminent and widespread.

A statement was released by the Metropolitan Opera House that read, “Bedbugs were discovered in some isolated locations but not in any public areas. There was no evidence of infestation. Those areas identified will be treated this afternoon.”

The nutrition twins, Tammy and Lyssie Lakatos, spoke to Fox News about their views on a newly announced government funded $2 million food behavior study. Lyssie Lakatos spoke first and essentially stated that she felt the ‘research’ was unneeded as the nation doesn’t need a behavioral scientist to determine why children prefer junk food over healthy foods such as salads and vegetables.

Lyssie Lakatos stated, “I don’t like it. I think it is so silly. I’d much rather have money spent elsewhere.”

Tammie Lakatos, Lyssie’s twin sister, interjected and said she would rather see the money put into the schools to implement the change. The research is already out there,” she said.

A New Jersey woman, Katherine O’Connor, was refused an inhaler form a local CVS while she was having an asthma attack because she didn’t have enough money to pay for it. We must ask the question, would the pharmacy be held liable if she had died on the floor? Glenn Beck might say no (if you listen to his recent comments regarding a Tennessee man who lost his house to fire while firefighters watched it burn, refusing to put out the blaze for an unpaid subscription fee of $70.00) but what do you say?

Katherine O’Connor spoke to Fox News and described the incident. She said that when she has an attack she puts her hands over her head and focuses on breathing in and out. Katherine suffered the attack while walking home and went in to CVS. The inhaler would cost $21.00 and change, and he had a $20.00 bill. The CVS pharmacist refused to give them the inhaler over $1.00 and change.

Jack Brown said that he offered the pharmacist his cell phone and offered to come back with money, but to no avail. Jack called a friend who is a paramedic and he came on the scene and provided her with an inhaler.
CVS workers had no comment on the incident but a statement was released by the CVS company. It reads, “The well being of our customers if our highest priority and we are looking into this matter.”

American Idol Season Six winner, Jordin Sparks is excited about life, her career and her future and is sharing that joy with the world. The beautiful and talented 20-year-old singer is launching her own perfume that she described as being a fruity, oriental perfume. The perfume is called “Because of You.” Jordin spoke to WWD and said, “When I was starting this project, I really wanted it to be affordable. I looked at some other celebrity fragrances, and they were like $80. Even now, I look at a fragrance that’s $80, and I can’t bring myself to spend that much.” The perfume will hit stores November 1st.

In the video below, Jordin Sparks also discusses her upcoming Broadway debut and her views on the new American Idol judges: Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

Jordan will perform in the Broadway hit musical “In the Heights.” Jordin said she always loved Broadway and musicals and though she said it was challenging, she said it was a lot of fun.

When asked her opinion on the new American Idol judges, Jordin said she loved Jennifer Lopez and recalled how Jennifer was one of the mentors on season six. She said that Jennifer Lopez was sweet and offered to answer any questions Jordin had. Not only did Jordin say she was a fan of Steven Tyler, she revealed that she had a crush on him for a long time.

Justin Bieber showed his fans that he is a loving big brother when he brought his little sister Jazzy on stage and held her tight on her second birthday. Justin Bieber was playing a show on September 14, 2010 in Winnipeg, Canada when he surprised his fans by bringing his little sister on stage. You can see the video below as Justin Bieber carries Jazzy and asks her to say hi to everyone from the stage. There’s a good chance Jazzy was a bit overwhelmed by the lights and large crowd as she barely said a word.

Jazzy’s silence didn’t prevent those who attended the show from making plenty of ‘oohs and ahhs’ at the little two-year-old who showed she is just as cute as Justin Bieber gives girl a sudden case of fever.
As for Justin, he will make his acting debut next Thursday on CSI.
