Fast Food Advertisements Are More Attractive To Obese Children and Young Adults
The alarming rate of increase in obesity the world over especially amongst children and young adults is a growing cause for concern due to its associated health risks.
Norris Cotton Cancer Center at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon N.H. conducted a study led by Dr Auden McClure that has confirmed that obese children and young adults in the United States are more attracted by fast food advertisements on TV than their normal counterparts. This has led her to believe that the better we understand the influences of marketing strategies and advertisements aimed at the young, the easier it will be for parents and pediatrics to guide the child regarding what food to eat and the kind of lifestyle to lead.
She also admitted that the study could not prove which comes first obesity or the food choices and that more research was necessary to understand the link between obesity and food advertising.
