Get up and work more; do gardening, sweat it out is the mantra advised by doctors worldwide specially for elderly people to reduce risk of cardiac arrests

A Swedish study was done on 4232 people over the age of 60 years. It showed that elderly people had a comparatively sedentary lifestyle than the other age groups. Most of their time was spent sitting or lying down. This can result in them developing risks of cardiovascular diseases. Activities like home repairs, lawn mowing, gardening, hunting car repair were analysed. A 12-year study showed elders who were active on a regular basis decreased their risk of heart attacks by 27%. Death rate reduced to 30%. "A generally active daily life had important beneficial associations with cardiovascular health and longevity in older adults, which seemed to be regardless of regular exercise." Lesser activities reduced altered the hormones of the muscle tissues. Metabolic rates took a dip. Studies were published in British Journal of Sports Medicine. They advise 150 minute of moderate/ intense activity per week for good, healthy, disease-free life.
