Public Opinions about Low Carbohydrate High Fat Diets Have Health Organizations of New Zealand Worried

Health organizations in New Zealand are worried about the response of the public to a new opinion report advocating a low carbohydrate and high fat diet to reduce weight and help deal with some chronic diseases. Studies commissioned by WHO have definitely proved that reduction in fat and sugar intake has helped deal with obesity and chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes, coronary diseases, hypertension and stroke. No such benefit has been noticed with a low carbohydrate high fat diet. In western countries reduction in intake of saturated fat has directly resulted in lower cholesterol levels in the blood and thereby there has been a drastic fall in the occurrence of coronary diseases. Whilst the opposite has been noticed in Sweden where there is a trend to indulge in low carbohydrate high fat diets. Radical new dietary plans have to be supported by its health benefits that can be determined only after studies over a continued period of time.
