Breast cancer shared in identical twins
Two identical twins are now recovering from breast cancer after they went through a rare reconstruction surgery at the University Of Chicago Medical Center. The abdominal tissue of one twin was used for the breast creation for her twin. So far, there were breast reconstruction surgeries performed only by using tissue donated from identical twins.
The two sisters from Crown Point, Ind. Are aged 34 and are the youngest patients who went through this rare surgery ever. Kristen Maurer donated her tissue to her twin, Kelly McCarthy. The sisters consider that they`ve always been in a close relationship but now feel even closer to each other because one of them has her sister`s tissue implanted over her heart.
We`re talking about a perfect match of genetics because the twins are identical. Therefore, there`s no need to take ant-rejection medication for any of the twins.
