Disease Progression, Death More Likely to Be Faced by Young Patients of Colorectal Cancer

Younger patients suffering from colorectal cancer are faced with higher chances to suffer from disease progression and death according to new findings of the European Cancer Congress of 2013. About 20, 034 patients underwent analysis for the Phase II trial on colorectal cancer. About three percent who are below 40 years old were found out to be at higher risks as compared to those younger and older than them. These patients are thirty percent more prone to dying as compared to their counterparts who are 57 years old. On the other hand, they are 28% more prone to worse conditions unlike the patients who are 61 years old. Dr. Christopher Lieu, assistant professor at Colorado University, The incidence of the disease happens in 4.6% of patients who are below 50. “The most dramatic increase has been observed in the 20-29 year-old group,” he explained. The reasons for increased risk of the disease to the age group are still unknown according to experts.
