Genetic breakthrough helps the scientists to get closer for curing multiple sclerosis
As per a new study the scientist has discovered 48 genetic variants that actually influence the risk of a person getting multiple sclerosis. The discovering of such genetics has given breakthrough that will help them to find a suitable cure.
For this study a big team of scientists from 13 different countries, including Australia, collected and examined DNA of 80,000 people that was with and without MS. This experiment helps them to understand why certain people are prone to the debilitating disease and while others are not.
Professor David Booth from the Westmead Millennium Institute, the co-researcher explains the study, “These genes, like the first ones that we've found, are actually all immune genes. So what they suggest is that even though multiple sclerosis is a neurological disease, its damage to the brain that characterizes it. It looks like susceptibility is mainly due to the variation in people's immune response.”
