Health worker roles affected when 'undervalued' by patients

According to the research published in Academy of Management Journal showed that job satisfaction between nurse practitioners and other professionals can suffer when the clients or patients lack a clear understanding about their services. As per the Michael C. Pratt, from Boston College, who have studied the individuals in four professions through this they found out that professionals, including 13 nurse practitioners usually have to educate their patient’s clients and accordingly have to manage their expectation levels. They have to provide in-detail explanation about their work. For nurses the practitioners sometimes experience rigid attitude from patients who insist on being seen by a doctor or feel they are not treated properly. Such experiences lead to lower job satisfaction and commitment. The author was quite surprised with the results and said that, “I was surprised at the depth of how this affected job performance. It's not simply annoying—it has real impact.”
