Scientists Find That Mitochondria Could Cause Congenial Heart Diseases

School of Medicine researchers in Washington University have found facts that will change the age old concept about the role of Mitochondria in the cells. Until now it was considered to be the one getting rid of old or damaged cells in human anatomy. Now it is discovered that it could be a possible threat leading to congenial heart disease as well. According to Professor Gerald W. Dorn II; “This study is surprising because biologists always assumed that organ development was orchestrated from the nucleus of a cell, and that mitochondria simply followed along and did what they were told”. Revelation that tilted the card upside down is that mitochondria depend on cells for their existence. Outside invaders by origin, mitochondria can ultimately start controlling the cell functions in a negative manner. Preventing the cardiac muscles from developing and controlling the nuclear gene expressions, mitochondria could lead to congenial heart diseases. Impact of the discovery could be far flung on the healthcare industry.
