The brain has `sensational` barrels in it

According to a new study, released by a team of researchers from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), situated in Mumbai, the circuitry for high resolution signal processing in the brain is wired. This study is published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). The study is led by Dr. Shubha Tole, a scientist at TIFR and it is released on mice. The Lhx2 gene is also mentioned in the study and how this gene affects nerves in the brain. If the Lhx2 gene is knocked out, no barrels are forming. This fact is proven by Ashwin Shetty, a PhD student in Dr. Tole`s laboratory. In this situation, barrel cores also get lost. In this phase, the nerves make connections with the sensory cortex. It was discovered that the Lhx2 gene behaves like a central regulator of circuit formation in the brain and this fact will open new doors for new studies and discoveries.
