Adolescents Anxiety an Depressive Symptoms
A joint study conducted by PolyU and CFSC on various aspects of family, physique, and emotions of high school students throws light on the probable association between adolescent’s anxiety and depressive symptoms. In course of the three year long study that commenced back in the year 2011, the research team found that 12% of over eleven thousand students interviewed had moderate and around 5.7% had severe anxiety two weeks before the survey taking place.
To accurately assess one of the common psychological problems, the anxiety disorders, the research team examined Generalized Anxiety Disorder or GAD primarily. While everyone experiences some anxiety during their life at some point of time or other, chronic anxiety could lead to depression.
Through research it was established that people suffering from chronic anxiety are more vulnerable to health risk behavior like smoking, drinking and drug consumption. Since dependence on this type of outlets will cause further anxiety, the patient is caught into a near non-curable vicious psychological depression.
