Research Shows That Chronic Disease May Be Caused By Poor Sleeping Habits

In a study that was published in the journal of sleep, researchers have indicated that poor sleeping may increase the risks of chronic diseases. The study that involved analysis of Americans of about 45 years of age indicated that short sleepers were at greater risks o heart attack compared to optimal sleepers. The study findings indicated that out of the people interviewed, 34 % were short sleepers while the remaining 66% were optimal sleepers. This was determined by the quality of sleep of each individual as opposed to the hours of sleep. Sleeping longer doesn't necessarily mean you're sleeping well," said Dr. Safwan Badr, president of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, when presenting the method employed in categorizing the population surveyed. The researchers indicated that the unhealthy sleep would also lead to other complications such as mental disorder and obesity. Treatment of these could be achieved through having adequate time and atmosphere to sleep.
