Study proves high Rx burden for bipolar patients
According to a new research conducted by the researchers of Brown University reveals that almost more than one third of the patients suffering from Bipolar I are facing severe medical conditions. Though they are on four or more psychiatric medications, still they are not able to cope up with Rx. The study published in journal Psychiatry Research, also brought forward reports that due to high medication the burden has more impact on women than men.
The study reveals the difficulties faced by many patients suffering from this disorder. According to the lead author Lauren Weinstock from the Alpert Medical School of Brown University and of Butler Hospital explains, “They accrue a high burden of prescriptions each with their own side effects, with often unknown interactions, and with a complexity that can result in not taking the medications as prescribed. This medication burden also includes high overall cost to patients and the healthcare system.”
