Good results from anti smoking campaign
"We saw 150,000 people call 1-800-QUIT-NOW over and above what we would have expected," said Dr. Tim McAfee, director of the CDC's Office on Smoking and Health. This came on the heels of graphic ads that show the damage done by smoking. TV ads where ex-smokers talk about their smoking related health problems are quite effective too.
There was a total 75% rise in calls and 38 times increase in unique website visits after the campaign started. However there was a marked drop of 41% in calls and 96% in website visits after the campaign ended.
During the campaign there was 353,000 calls and 2.8 million hits to the TIPS website. Dr Tim McAfee said, "We know that the number of people who seek help is the tip of the iceberg of people who make quit attempts, so we are very excited by these results."
