The relation between cancer development and previously unknown mice genes
A group of researchers from Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the Icahn School of Medicine discovered the relationship between previously unknown genes and tumors` growth. Their paper was published in the journal Science in which the team of researchers presents the way how using RNAi led to this discovery.
We knew so far that typical genes are predisposed to cancel development but they explain that genes which don`t work properly or are absent can also lead to the same problem. RNAi (RNA interference) is the method they used which allows modifying genes. They are using the technique for shutting off different genes to discover more about these, when mice grow to maturity.
There were however several previous genes associated with the development of tumors. There were seven new genes discovered by the researchers which were never discovered before. The discovery in mice could be applicable in humans as well.
