A study shows that un-prescribed painkiller is suitable after tonsils removal

Tonsillectomy is one of the surgeries conducted to out-patients in United States of America. Initially painkillers such as acetaminophen were adopted for relieving pain after the process. However, studies have indicated the unsuitability of these painkillers containing codeine to children.

Recent research has shown that over the counter pain killers such as ibuprofen could equally relieve pain after the process. The FDA warning on the detriments of previous painkillers have led to most people opting to rely on the study findings. "Ibuprofen appears to be the safest alternative that still provides adequate pain control for children," Standring said when convincing the public to refrain from the use of other painkillers that may be harmful to them.

The study findings also revealed that tonsil removal is accompanied with acute pains that may cause dehydration and weight loss if not effectively managed. They then recommended on the use of a pain killer that would not instigate additional pains but relieve the pain after surgery.
