Biomarkers Help in the Early Detection of Cancer Especially In Women

Substances in the body called biomarkers show up a disease before its actual physical manifestation. Arizona State University’s Biodesign Institute’s researchers have developed a series of biomarkers to help in the detection of cancer especially breast, ovarian and HPV. A molecular diagnostics company called Provista Diagnostics Inc has licensed this technology that predicts cancer in women, for testing, evaluation and future development. Early detection of cancer majorly improves the chances of remission and survival of its patients. But usually there are minimal signs of diseases like breast or ovarian cancer in its early stage. The role of biomarkers in this is undeniable. Joshua LaBaer, Biodesign Institute’s director of the Virginia G Piper Center for Personalized Diagnostics says that with molecularly targeted therapeutics, biomarkers associated with cancer will be useful in predicting responses of patients to therapeutic interventions. This will help in the early detection of cancer.
