Consumption of Honey May Not Be Beneficial For People Suffering From Type 2 Diabetes
Honey has been known to have many good qualities. Its consumption has known to raise hemoglobin levels in those suffering from anemia. Its antibiotic and healing properties heal mild eye infections, helps gastric ulcers and kidney ailments. Honey is also a natural sedative and a mild laxative. It balances calcium in the system and also prevents bacteria growth. But it is rich in natural sugars and therefore inadvisable for people with type 2 diabetes.
Brito Cordova a nutriologist with the National Nutrition Institute debunked the theory that honey as a sugar substitute was safe for diabetics. Although it was better than the sugar substitutes and could be consumed once in a while in small quantities if other sugars like those found in fruits were eliminated from the diet. It could also raise the triglycerides and fat levels in the bodies of the diabetics who normally have a problem with obesity.
