Genetic Network May Be Responsible For Brain Cancer Says a Study by Researchers from Across the World
Researchers from Canada, the United States, United Kingdom, Singapore and Australia in a joint study have found a few genes to be responsible for medulloblastoma an extremely severe and aggressive form of brain tumor in children.
Brain tumor is the most common cause of death in children. Most children who survive have to deal with neurological, physical and intellectual disabilities caused by the disease, the removal of the tumor and subsequent radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Obviously a less invasive method of treatment is needed.
There are four different sub types of this disease and each has its own molecular pattern. This discovery of a genetic regulatory network being present in all subtypes of brain cancer will help in targeting the treatment for this disease. The search is now on to find existing drugs that can block these genes and work as an alternative treatment of medulloblastoma.
