The household gun ownership can be linked to child gun shot injuries
According to a new research presented at American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) National Conference and Exhibition in Orlando suggested that there is a big link between the people having guns at their houses and the occurrence of child gunshot wounds amongst them. As per the facts there are as much as 7,500 kids’ hospitalized and almost 500 die in each hospital.
It was further studied that from the year 1997 to 2009, the wounded kids rose to 4,270 to 7,730, and the deaths increased from 317 to 503. These are big shocking figures.
The lead author of the research, Arin L. Madenci, MD, MPH explains, “Handguns account for the majority of childhood gunshot wounds and this number appears to be increasing over the last decade. Furthermore, states with higher percentages of household firearm ownership also tended to have higher proportions of childhood gunshot wounds, especially those occurring in the home.”
