There`s a high number of applicants for medical schools

According to a study published by the Association of American Medical Colleagues (AAMC), there was a record number of applicants obtained for medical schools in 2013. The total number of applicants to medical schools was increased with 6.1% (represented by a total number of 48,014 applicants). The final results of this study also prove that the number of first-time applicants to medical schools was also increased by 5.8% (which means 35,727 first-time applicants in total). The total number of students who enrolled their first year in a medical school was 20,055, representing an increase of 2.8% this year, compared to 2012, last year. According to the study, the main reason of this record number is represented by the appearance of new medical schools. “We are very glad that more students than ever want to become physicians”, said Darrell G. Kirsch, M.D., AAMC president and chief executive Officer.
