Underlying Brainstem Abnormalities Cause of Child Death

Scientists have discovered that brainstem abnormalities results in death of maximum number of children in either safe or in unsafe sleeping environments. Researchers from the Boston Children’s Hospital also found that children meeting with untimely end are often not in their normal conditions at such time. According to the investigating team, a necessity is early diagnosing as well as treatment of the health condition in children. Working on the “sudden infant death syndrome” they found that these children who met with their death had differences in the brainstem in comparison to the normal children. Such abnormalities destroy vital circuits in brain that controls blood pressure, heart rates, breathing and temperature and turns into a killing effect. "Even the infants dying in unsafe sleep environments had an underlying brainstem abnormality that likely made them vulnerable to sudden death if there was any degree of asphyxia, the abnormality prevents the brainstem from responding to the asphyxial challenge and waking,” concluded research leader Dr. Kinney.
