Women above 50 Are Expected To Live Longer Says W.H.O Report

A recent report by W.H.O says that women who live over 50 now have greater life expectancy. Dr Beard who is an author of the study and the director of W.H.O’s department of aging says that heart disease, cancer and stroke accounts for the death of many older women, so treating blood pressure and testing for cervical and breast cancer should be the focus of the countries especially because these diseases can be prevented and treated. Women in most countries now live longer than they did 40 years ago, because of the considerable progress in medical science. However, various factors like AIDS epidemic in South Africa, breakdown of Soviet Health System in Russia etc has contributed to the slow progress of some countries. The W.H.O bulletin also included a report about the sexual right of older women. “To some extent, we treat women as vessels of reproduction, and once they’ve done that we don’t pay much attention to them,” said Dr. Beard, the co author of the report.
