Be careful if your partner has diabetes as it can put in a potential risk zone also

A research was done by Dr. Kaberi Dasgupta from McGill University Health Centre and published in the BMC Medicine. It studied the possibility and vulnerability of a spouse or partner acquiring type 2 diabetes if the other partner or spouse also has it. 75,498 couples around the world from six different studies were analysed. Factors such as age, socio economic status, diabetes diagnosis in them were also taken into consideration. The basis for the study was that external factors like lifestyle and food habits were common and shared between the partners. This may lead to the other partner acquiring diabetes depending on the lifestyle they both followed. Health records and direct blood testing were done. Results showed couples in whom one was diabetic put the other at potential risk of acquiring the same. Diagnoses hence should be done earlier to prevent onset of the same. Men tend not to undergo any clinical check up’s. It is more important for them to do so if the spouse is diabetic.
