Studies reveal wide gender difference when it comes to remembering things with men faltering more

Studies were done to compare instances of forgetfulness in men versus women. The study was conducted by Prof Jostein Holmen from Norwegian University of Science and Technology and published in BMC Psychology in 2013. The study called HUNT3 was one of the largest performed which took data from 48000 people. They were made to answer a set of 9 questions which asked about the problems in remembering things. These include name, anniversary, and dates. Results showed men reporting problems in eight out of nine questions. Women had the same problem but to a lesser extent. There were no differences in problems of remembering based on the age of participant. But it increased with more ageing. People with lesser education and suffering from anxiety or depression forgot more. Another reason for conducting the study was to understand if people suffering from memory at a younger age were prone to dementia.
