Early warning tests to find osteoporosis

Now the researchers are working to bring out a device that will help to detect early signs of osteoporosis. The advanced technology is being tested by the University of Southampton along with Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). They took the original concept initiated by the University of California, Santa Barbara. Osteoporosis is a growing problem. Medicines can slow it but cannot treat it well. So, this device will help to identify the problem at an early stage. This device along with the needle measures the density of the bones and detects the disease. Professor Philipp Thurner from University of Southampton, the one leading this research explains that “One in three women aged over 50 is forecast to experience an osteoporotic fracture in her lifetime and, globally, treatment costs are forecast to reach over US$130 billion by 2050.” This improvement will help to improve the health and also control the problem.
