It`s not possible to buy happiness but if you`re happy, you get paid!
Many people wonder if they`re happy, this phenomenon influences their financial status positively or not. An Australian economist brought the answer, after years of study on the money`s influence on happiness:
“Income doesn’t have a significant effect on happiness, but I wondered if happy people were more productive than others, and if happy people could affect their income generation through how much they worked”, said Satya Paul, professor of economics at the University of Western Sydney and author of the study.
Professor Paul used research from Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA) and examined happiness levels of 9,300 people between 2001 and 2005. He concludes that happy people can work more and get paid better. In his study, he also presents two groups of happy workers: the first group who wanted to work more because of joy and the other group who wanted to work less for a better work-life balance.
“Happiness affects hours, happy people work more, and their incomes increase”, he said. “Also, happy people can like to have more leisure time in their lives, and work less … but can be more productive because of that leisure time”.
“This is a lesson we can take, the more happy people are, the less inequality in incomes we can have in society”, he said.
