Prozac during adolescence prevents adulthood despair

According to a new study, adolescences treated with Prozac present better brain behavior during adulthood. The study was conducted on adult mice and rats which presented better behavior, following their early treatment, unlike those rats and mice which were not treated; these are the findings of a team of researchers. The results of this study are published in the Journal of Neuroscience. “These findings underscore the complexity of drug and intracellular manipulations in the immature brain”, the authors write. There were two tests which were made on mice and rats. The final results prove that mice and rats with Prozac had better behavior, compared to those which received a placebo. These findings could be helpful in the future for predicting depression in those adolescents who are predisposed to it but to also identify their possible response to treatment with antidepressants. In-time treatment of adolescents could have positive results on their adulthood, by combating depression.
