Screening for colorectal cancer reduces mortality
Colorectal cancer patients in European countries are given brighter streak of hope when a study was done to prove that screening can reduce mortality rates.
According to the European Cancer Congress 2013, the evidence of effective results for screening programmes can be reallocated to the early diagnoses of colorectal cancer.
Professor Philippe Autier is expected to report on the findings extracted from CRC survey on Health, Ageing and Retirement within Europe. The researches made use of the death database provided by the World Health Organization and estimated the alterations in death rates relating the results to CRC screening.
The entire screening process covers a faecal occult blood test or FOBT which checks a small sample of faeces within the endoscopy through a tiny camera. Screening activities are part of the national programmes like FOBT Screening done in France and within UK and FOBT in Italy and Germany. Endoscopic screening is implemented even without undergoing FOBT examination.
