Studies show that individuals need to be educated and their outlook changed for maintaining better dental health

A study done by University of Maryland School of Dentistry and authored by Richard Manski, Chief of dental public health was published in the February issue of the American Journal of Public Health. It showed that it is not necessary that if some one has a dental insurance that person will have good dental health also. Most often it has been seen that people with dental insurance and coverage hardly ever sought any kind of dental treatment even if for maintenance. The study was done on data collected from 2008 survey of older Americans who had a dental insurance done and also those who didn’t have a dental insurance. Researchers also took into account factors like race, marital status, gender, health and the age of the individual into consideration. Results showed that more than the insurance an individual’s outlook and education were important factors in maintaining a good dental health in individuals.
