Two drugs aren't good for kidney disease

According to a new research published in New England Journal of Medicine suggests that two drugs are not always better than one. The study focuses on combining the two blood pressure medication drugs consisting of angiotensin-converting-enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and angiotensin-receptor-blockers (ARBs). These normally help people to control diabetes. Another hard fact that has come up is that also affects kidney disease. Using both these drugs actually harm the kidneys. Rather than improving health combining these two drugs could get into loads of further problems. The author of the study, Dr. Linda Fried, a staff physician in the renal section of the Veterans Affairs Pittsburgh Healthcare System explains, “We thought that in this high-risk group of people, a combination of the two would help. We thought it might slow the progression of their kidney disease. We saw a small, but not statistically significant, benefit in progression. But, we also had serious adverse events.”
