A New Strategy Identified For Maintaining Fertility through Oocyte Supply
During this time when many women are struggling to get children have led to many scientists looking for means of preserving fertility. Exposure to various kinds of treatment has led to the stress of loss in fertility of women.
In a study reported in the journal of molecular cell, metabolism can be adopted to preserve fertility in women. The study made use of frogs where the requirements for survival of the oocytes were identified. The study findings revealed that as long as the oocytes were not starved they will continue producing viable eggs.
"The study of metabolic regulation in mammalian cells is cumbersome, as it is not feasible to introduce intermediate metabolites directly into cells unless by microinjection," said one of the researcher when suggesting that the team would be required to use more sophisticated strategies to identify levels of metabolism in humans that will enable them determine the possibility of the oocytes to starve or not.
