Air Pollution and Psychological Distress are harmful during pregnancy
As per the research conducted at the Columbia Center for Children's Environmental Health at the Mailman School of Public Health and published in journal Pediatrics shows that the maternal psychological distress along with the air pollution during pregnancy days can have a negative impact on the child’s behavioral development. For this reason to-be-mother needs to live in a safe and peaceful environment. She should try to keep herself and should be in clean and healthy place. This will help in proper child’s behavioral development.
Through this research the scientists identify the reasons for negative child behavioral development. After studying it they have been working to find out better alternatives to cut down the negative issues.
The lead author Frederica Perera, DrPH, PhD, director of the Center explains, “This study shows that the combination of physical and psychosocial stressors during fetal development magnifies the effect of each exposure. The findings are of concern because attention problems and anxiety and depression have been shown to affect peer relationships, academic performance, and future well- being of children.”
