Brain Issues to Linger Even After ICU Stint
Patients who are critically ill and who spent many days inside the intensive care unit or ICU of a hospital are bound to suffer other problems according to a most recent research. The patients are bound to experience memory and thinking problems. ‘
This is also possible even if those patients have already healed from their physical problems. The Health concern is viewed to persist for a longer period of time.
Delirious ICU patients especially those who are not able to focus or are constantly confused usually still experience problems in thinking and memory.
According to Dr. Wes Ely, the longer a patient becomes delirious, the more possibility for him to experience problems in cognition for a long-term basis. He added that delirium was at first viewed as a temporary effect of staying inside the ICU. It is only at present that doctors realize that the condition is a sign of more serious illness.
