Junk Food Preferences of Star Athletes

A new study has revealed that more than any other people it is star athletes that are more attached to junk food. While such people are well known for their physical fitness and health, they are the ones most vulnerable to junk food and beverages. An example is the food and beverages that are promoted by star athletes like Serena Williams and Peyton Manning that are high in calories but low in nutrition. Examining 62 food products that were endorsed by star athletes in 2010, the research team arrived at the conclusion that as many as 79% of such food fell in the category of junk foods. Most of these food and beverages were rich in sugar and harmful for health. According to Dr Michael Rich, “There's an implicit message that the athletes actually use these products, and that (the products) are healthy”. Ultimately this could be harmful for the entire society where people follow star athletes making them their role model.
