Water Births though Dangerous, but can be Helpful in Early Labor
As per the early researches it was believed that sitting in water can helpful during the early labor. Further the new research American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists suggests that it might not provide any major benefit and also it can be really harmful during the birth. The delivering situation under water can get risky. Hence, the water births should be avoided for healthy child and healthy mother. Another aspect suggests that the use of water in the early labor can reduce the pain and can also shorten the labor in some cases.
Jeffrey L. Ecker, MD, chair of the College's Committee on Obstetric Practice that developed the Committee Opinion explains, “Many labor and delivery units are equipped with tubs to be used by laboring women, and immersion in water for relaxation and pain relief is appealing to some. But it is important to recognize that laboring in water is not the same as delivering underwater.”
