A Device for Measuring Quality Life of the Elderly Identified

Global Age Watch Index for measuring quality of life of elderly people has been developed by a professor from the University of Southampton in collaboration with HelpAge international. Gaining support from the United Nations Fund, this device has been used to measure quality of life of different people worldwide. "The Global AgeWatch Index is the beginning of a process in which we are gathering all the available evidence of the lives of older people around the world”, said Professor Asghar Zaidi in reference to this. The index measures the income levels, personal capabilities and health of the elderly to give an informed decision on the quality of life exhibit by the individual. The figures obtained indicated that the elderly in Sweden had the better quality life compared to others in the whole world. However, countries such as Tanzania and Jordon were reported not to be suitable to the old age. Future studies will work on updating these findings and covering a larger number of countries in the study.
