Chronic inflammation may cause unhealthy aging

Interleukin 6, in human encoded as IL6 gene acts as both pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokine. It is secreted by T cells and macrophages and stimulates immune response. IL6 also fights infections but during infection and after trauma it leads to inflammation. One of the most important mediators of fever and of the acute phase response is IL6. It is secreted by specific microbial molecules by macrophages known as pathogen-associated molecular pattern (PAMPs). IL6 is essential for Hybridoma growth. Also stimulates the acute phase protein synthesis and production of neutrophil in the bone marrow. Interleukin 6 is linked to age-related diseases, and specially diabetes, heart disease and cognitive decline. The main reasons which may cause inflammation are smoking, diet, chronic diseases. A journal of Canadian Medical Association (CMA) carried out a study and found that when high levels of interleukin-6 gets a chronic exposure it may significantly lower likelihood of healthy aging.
