Inhaled corticosteroids can lead to pneumonia

As according to a research conducted by University of Alberta it was found out that doctors should be very cautious while prescribing inhaled corticosteroids to the high risk patients especially to pneumonia survivors as this may lead to a repeat risk. The team studied over 6,200 cases that have survived through the initial pneumonia but are again at same risk. They have conducted this study for more than five years and found that the in 653 cases the disease reoccurred due to the use of corticosteroid. The team leader Eurich, an associate professor in the School of Public Health and trained pharmacist throws light on the research, “Given the evidence starting to emerge on inhaled corticosteroids, health professionals have to use their own clinical judgment to try and determine which patients should remain on the drugs, especially for patients with pneumonia.” Further the doctor should use their own diagnose to deal with such high risk patients.
