Interference in cellular recycling can leads to cancer growth
As per a new research by Drs. Beth Levine and Yongjie Wei shows that epidermal growth factor receptor can actually interfere with the body’s own and natural recycling process. This can further lead to growth of cancer in the body. Also another important finding related to same study is that this cancer will chemotherapy resistant that is it incurable by the normal chemotherapy procedure.
Dr. Levine, the director of the Center for Autophagy Research and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) investigator at UT Southwestern, explains the importance of this research “The fact that this type of cell surface receptor can directly interact with Beclin 1 and shut off autophagy provides fundamental insight into how certain oncogenes may cause cancer," said. "Our findings suggest that inactivation of autophagy may be a critically important factor in the progression of lung cancer.”
This is a valuable research that can help doctors to handle their patients in a better manner.
