Long-term effects of bariatric surgery in Type 2 diabetes patients
According to a new study conducted at Cleveland Clinic's Bariatric & Metabolic Institute shows that the bariatric surgery has better and long term effects on the Type 2 diabetes patients. Before it was of view that these operational treatments would not last long but this very research proved it wrong. It has been proved that the patient enjoys good health from nine plus years.
The lead researcher Stacy Brethauer, M.D., a bariatric surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic Bariatric & Metabolic Institute explains that, “Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to serious complications such as heart and kidney disease. Only about half of diabetics in the United States currently have acceptable control of their blood glucose level. Our study, however, shows that 80 percent of the diabetic patients still control their blood glucose five years after their bariatric surgery. Additionally, nearly one-third of gastric bypass patients had normal blood glucose levels off medication for over five years after surgery.”
