Scientists Find Ways to Prevent Morphine Tolerance

Use of morphine is quite common for treatment of different types of pains. However, there is also an inherent danger of the patient developing morphine tolerance. It means after a given time span body starts refusing to respond to the given doses of morphine. Only possible way open to physicians is enhancing the morphine doses but it could bring up multiple side affects.
According to Dr. Anne Murphy, associate professor of Neuroscience; consumption of morphine over extended period could reduce its effects as body develops tolerance. Morphine triggers the painkilling effects in the central nervous system of human anatomy but consumption beyond a certain limit could be immensely harmful.
In their bid to find out an effective solution to the problem, the scientists tried regulating the receptors that create such effects in body. It seems that the results were encouraging. As Dr Murphy says “Our results have exciting implications for the clinical treatment and management of chronic pain.”
