Exposure to Constant Environmental Noise Negatively Impacts Health of Individuals

Constant exposure to noise not only impairs the hearing of an individual; it also negatively impacts general health causing sleep disturbances, cardiovascular diseases, problems in cognitive performances and peace of mind. Even a patient’s healing process is disturbed with the constant noise he is exposed to while in hospital. While work is on to find therapeutic means to deal with noise related hearing loss, the other health impacts of noise are yet to be looked into medically. It is not very easy to find peace and quiet in modern urban life and in most cases the individual gets so used to social noise be it traffic, rail, aircraft, or even community noises that they fail to notice that internally it is affecting his health. Further intensive studies need to be conducted to establish the link between environmental noise and health problems like cardiovascular diseases and thereby educate people to avoid noise or work towards reducing noise around them.
