The new research conducted at Loyola University Medical Center and published in Journal of Burn Care and Research has been based on the moral issues and distress faced by the nurses. It is a unique kind of research that features published emotional and psychological anguish by the nurses working in a care unit of burnt patients. The researchers have covered various factors including the painful feelings and also the emotional and mental anguish nurses have to face while dealing with the patients. They are trained to do the needful things for patients. Surviving under such conditions is not easy. This can have a real affect over the nurse’s life. This may lead to anxiety, emotional withdrawal, anger and frustration. This can have negative effect.
The researchers concluded “The larger study should be refined to develop strategies for implementing effective interventions that become part of the culture and that ultimately reduce moral distress.”
