Bed-Sharing Rises Despite Potential Risks to Children

The number of infants allowed sharing bed with their parents increase over the last twenty years.
This was the results of a study published in the JAMA Pediatrics Journal and has triggered the concern of doctors, although there has been increased efforts for better awareness of bed sharing risks,
The dangers include being trapped in the beddings, suffocation and SIDS or sudden infant death syndrome. According to the conducted survey, the percentage of bed-sharing among infants and their parents have increased from seven percent in 1993 to fourteen percent in the year 2010.

The findings further pointed out the weak public information dissemination efforts of the government to let each infant have her own place to rest. This will not only be a safe venture but will also allow for the independence in terms of sleeping arrangements as the child grows older. Parents are advised to allow their children in their sleeping area alone according to the American Academy of Pediatrics.
