Patients with diabetes risks believe themselves healthy
According to a new study from the American Diabetes Association (ADA), 80% of patients with high risks to type II diabetes believe themselves perfectly healthy. According to some statistics, approximately 79 million Americans have prediabetes. The survey performed by ADA involved 1,400 people aged 40 and above but there were also 601 physicians and other health care professionals involved in it as well.
The final results of this study prove that less than half of the patients with risks to type II diabetes reported blood glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol. Over half of the patients reported that their doctors frequently asked them about their physical activity and weight but these risk factors are considered to be the lowest.
“These findings suggest it is critical for providers to connect the dots with patients between risk factors and disease development”, said Virginia Peragallo-Dittko, R.N., C.D.E., incoming chair of the ADA's Prevention Committee.
