VTE Post-Pine Surgery Risk Detected

Numerous risk factors can be named that develops deep venous thrombosis or DVT. Such risk factors are also associated with pulmonary embolism or PE. According to the Texas scientist Andrew J Schoenfeld associated with who undertook study of 27,730 spine surgery patients; there are some factors that affect patients more than others. "Patients with these characteristics may require additional counseling, procedural modification or prophylaxis against venous thromboembolic events," the research team led by Schoenfeld reported. Their findings were based on assessment of medical reports, study of deaths that occurred during and after the surgeries, and presence of medical conditions like DVT and PE. Examination of the mortality rates among such people brought out the fact that the 0.3% death in the average age of 56.4 years. In addition; 206 and 113 patients developed DVT and PE respectively. An important finding was that people with BMI or body mass index of ≥40 kg/m² as well as 80 years in age are more vulnerable to such syndrome.
