Infectious Disease Therapists Better Suited to Look After HIV Patients

It might sound strange but it is proved true after several experiments that infectious disease specialists are better suited to look after HIV patients. Traditional physicians and other specialists are prone to committing mistakes while treating such patients. But experience shows that infectious disease specialists are far more accurate in diagnosing any health problems faced by HIV affected patients and treatments are more successful in result.
Despite all expertise in normal treatments, committing errors in case of HIV patients could prove expensive and at times fatal. Negative impacts of medications and supplements to their ART regimens could jeopardize their sustenance.
Involvement of infectious disease specialist helped rectify errors committed in as much as 68% of cases of wrong treatment for patients with HIV. “Most HIV care has shifted from inpatient to outpatient, so hospital providers aren’t as familiar with the complicated ART regimens – and as a result, medication errors are common”, says Elizabeth A Neuter, a leading author of the study.
